PRESS RELEASE
Nepal Handball Association is proud to organize the IHF Trophy (International Handball Championship) under the aegis of International Handball Federation. Teams from South Asia and Yemen are part of the Event, where Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Yemen and Nepal are taking part in both Men's and Women's Pools.
This is the first time that IHF Trophy has included Female competition as well. The competition is played on League cum Knockout basis. All six teams are divided into two groups for their league encounters, which runs for the first three days and final two days are for the knockout basis positional encounters. Over 168 athletes under 21 years of age and officials are staying in the country for a week. Thus this has a great value in promoting nation's sports tourism as well.
The Winner and Runner up teams both in Male and Female competition will qualify for the second round Continental level IHF Trophy.
Nepal Handball Association is hosting the official International Tournament for the first time. It has completed all preparatory works and last three days are remained for final touches. Delegates are starting to arrive from today. IHF and AHF representatives will witness and supervise the competition. They will also run courses for Coaches and Referees during the competition days.
Following national and international sports traditions, we have a mascot- the leopard. It resembles the very Handball qualities of being fast and agile. Handball is considered the second fastest team game behind Ice Hockey. Our mascot also shows our concern over environment and animal rights. We all know these big cats are in the verge of extinction.
The logo of the competition has been as provided by the IHF. It is a universal logo with dates and venue tailored as appropriate to various regions and corresponding dates.
Nepal Handball Association has set up a Competition Management Office (CMO) to prepare and run this championship successfully. Through CMO we have initiated to implement modern management tools and techniques in managing and administering the Sport. It has an Advisory Committee to help prepare and organize the competition. 19 various sub committees are laboring to guarantee a successful tournament. We hope the Media sector will extend their support to run this competition successfully and raise the prestige of the nation through Sports.
Thank You and Have a Nice Day!
